Worry in the House of Thieves invites the viewer to an elegant dining experience: on the menu, a flesh-like wrench wrought from petroleum-based synthetics. The Victorian furniture, china and flatware provide the ambiance of Western haute cuisine. Even more than the Syrian tablecloth, the flesh-wrench disturbs the refined ambiance and magnifies the rupture between the relentless mechanical exploitation of natural resources and the façade of elegant and refined delectation. Worry in the House of Thieves thereby exposes the necessary illusion that segregates brutal processes of production from blissful moments of consumption.
